a peek into bbc life: march highlights

march was a busy month for our students, not because of student life but because of mid-terms and papers. it is not glamorous, but it is reality, and that is the point of this monthly highlight, to give you a peek into life at bbc. as much as college can be tons of fun, it is also tons of work. college will stretch you and challenge you in ways you may not expect. march was definitely a month dedicated to challenging our students.

guest speaker dr. christopher yuan

alongside writing papers and studying for mid-terms, we had a guest speaker on campus this month. dr. christopher yuan is an author, speaker, and bible professor at moody bible institute with a rather amazing story to tell. his autobiography, out of a far country, which he co-authored with his mother, details his life of homosexuality and drug dealing before landing in prison, despite a bright academic future.

hitting rock bottom made him open to finding true meaning in life. that was when he found salvation in jesus christ. as he searched the bible for justification of his lifestyle, he became convicted of his sin, realizing that god desires his people to live holy lives. he now lives satisfied as a single man whose identity is in christ alone, not in his sexual orientation. you can watch a video of his story here.

dr. yuan spoke to bbc students about the most controversial scriptures about homosexuality but ultimately ended his lecture with how the gospel addresses the issue. you can learn more about his perspective in his book holy sexuality and the gospel, which helps readers better understand sexuality in light of god’s grand story and how holy sexuality is actually good news for all.

spring break trip

as busy as march was for students, they were rewarded at the end with spring break! as students went to their homes along the west coast, some faculty such as russell grove, the christian education department head, went to oregon to host the leadership boot camp: worldview warriors at grove christian camp. to an audience of middle school and high school students, the faculty sought to answer worldview questions such as: what is ultimate reality? how do we explain our world and universe? what is truth and how do we know it? what does it mean to be human? what is the purpose of life? how can we trust the bible? the goal of this “boot camp” was to teach students how to stand firm in faith so they can share their faith with others.
